Research Methodology

Where the cost data, incentive details, and contractor information on this site come from.

Cost Data Sources

Cost ranges on state pillar pages, adjacent service pages, and blog posts are derived from a combination of:

Cost ranges represent typical residential project pricing in 2026. Individual project costs vary based on home size, scope, equipment selection, and contractor overhead. Ranges should be treated as planning guides, not quotes.

Incentive Information

Federal incentive details come directly from IRS publications (Form 5695, Section 25C/25D guidance, IRA implementation FAQs) and DOE program pages. State incentive details come from the administering agency's public program pages - we cite the agency name on each pillar.

Incentive program rates and eligibility change over time. Our content reflects program status as of the page's last-update date. Always verify current rates with the administering agency before making purchase decisions based on incentive math.

Climate and Geographic Data

Climate references (peak sun hours, heating/cooling degree days, hurricane risk zones, fire risk zones) come from NOAA, FEMA, and state-level mapping resources. These are used to give context to product selection guidance, not as primary site content.

Contractor Information

Licensing requirements, code references, and trade-specific terminology are sourced from state contractor licensing boards (NJ DCA, NY DOS, FL DBPR, CA CSLB, etc.) and the relevant trade associations. We do not maintain a directory of specific contractors - quotes are routed through our partner network.
